e-Signatures Now Legal
President
Clinton used a smart card “to sign” into law legislation legalizing
the use of electronic signatures. In effect, the legislation grants
electronic signatures the same legal status as more conventional handwritten
signatures. To emphasize the new technology, the President actually
used a smart card to transfer an embedded e-Signature to an electronic
document, which then was delivered via e-mail to a third party.
